Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek Comprehensive

You will set off for the Manaslu Circuit Tsum Valley trek from Kathmandu and drive to Arughat, which is our starting point for the trek to Soti Khola. Manaslu Circuit Tsum Valley Trek begins at Soti Khola then treks up Budhi Gandaki valley through the pine and rhododendron forest then over the ridge that leads to Lokpa, the entry point to Tsum Valley. But we will take three days to get to Lokpa. The first day starts to climb – we will be at Machha Khola, then Jagat, and spend the night at Lokpa.

The Manaslu Circuit Tsum Valley Trek goes on. From Lokpa, you trek to Chumling notable for having three beautiful monasteries – Pango Gumba, Mani Dhungyr, and Gurwa Gumba.

Once at Chumling, one will proceed to Chhokang Paro through Domje, the largest settlement in the Tsum Valley. Chhokang Paro is noted for the excellent vantage point of the Himalchuli and Ganesh Himal ranges.

The Manaslu Circuit Tsum Valley Trek carries on from Chhokang Paro to the upper inner Himalayan valley, passing along refreshing bamboo and rare rhododendrons woods at the lower altitude. Younger trials transverse the soundless lofty mountain pastures and barren rock terrains.

You will also be visiting Piren Phu cave - this is the most sacred cave in the region en route to the Nile from Chhokang Paro. From the Nile, you will rise still higher to Mu Gompa Sum, which will be the ultimate high point of the Tsum Valley Trek. Then we go down again to the village of Mu Gompa and then again to Lokpa before moving on.

The next move is directly to the west of Lokpa; Deng is the place for a night stop. You will get to see Ghap, Rana, and Bhimphedi villages during the journey on this trail. Namrung village is the next destination in this trek - the people of Namrung are Tibetans in their descent.

The next day’s trek takes us from Namrung to Sama Gaun. On the way is Lho, which is lined with entrance gates of mani walls and several Buddhist Gompas. After Lho, we trek through Shyala Village to Sama Gaon which is famous for Sama Gaon Monastery.

We shall also take one day set aside at Sama Gaon for acclimatization. On the seventh day, visitors can opt for the Manaslu Base Camp according to the preference of the guests, if they want to have a look at Birendra Lake or the Pungyen Gompa.

There is the Larkya La Pass, which is just a little further from Sama Gaon. All you require is a one-day trek to reach Dharmasala. The next day at dawn, you will trek from Dharmasala to Bhimtang – between which will be Larkya La Pass (5,160m).

The pass offers beautiful mountain ranges including Cheo Himal, Kanguru, Himlung Himal, and Annapurna II. Stretching for its entire length of 70 kilometers it is one of the longest passes in the Himalayas.

When you get to Bhimtang you are almost through this trekking adventure. You walk up from Bhimtang, then descend to Gho, and then to Tal. You will get public transport such as a bus or jeep to Besisahar through Tal and then a bus to Kathmandu will be available at Besisahar.

We, Recreation Holidays Team are sure that Tsum Valley Trek with Manaslu Circuit you make a great experience for a lifetime.

Off-Beaten Restricted Trekking Trail in Nepal

The Manaslu Trekking Region is an exceptionally attractive restricted trekking trail in Nepal. It features the Tsum Valley, the Larkya La Pass at 5,106 meters, and provides an insight into the vibrant local mountain culture. That is where you can go to get yourself acquainted with the unobvious culture and admire all around the Manaslu. Due to the conservation status of the Manaslu region as a restricted area, the following permits will be required.

Manaslu Restricted Area Permit: This permit is provided by the Government of Nepal to enter the Conservation Area of Manaslu.

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): Since the Manaslu Circuit Trek ends in the Annapurna region you will need an ACAP permit also. This may be acquired either in Kathmandu or in Pokhara.

MCAP abbreviates for the Manaslu Area Project and ACAP for the Annapurna Area Conservation Project. There is an abundance of villages, forests, lakes, landscapes, and side trails at the Grand Canyon. Thus, inevitably, knowledge combined with the correct orienting sense is a top priority of any guide. Furthermore, the trail is hiked through a landslide zone. It is truly very time-consuming and requires proper trip planning and coordination.

Enchanting Laryka La Pass (5106m)

In the entire route of the Manaslu Circuit Tsum Valley Trek, the Larkya La Pass at 5106 m is the highest and most exciting pass. When you are on the top of Larkya La, you will be fascinated by the stunning landscapes of Manaslu and Manaslu North, Samdo Peak, Naike Peak, Larke Peak, and Cheo Himal. Larkya Pass is located on the border of Dharmasala and Bimtang. Also, that would mark the highest point ever on the trek. The top of Larka La Pass, it’s very beautiful and most of area is circulated by the soaring mountains. In the winter season, it becomes almost impossible to cross the Larkya La pass because of heavy snow and the trail will be closed at Larkya La.

Day14

The last village before approaching the Larkya La is Samdo. Based on your Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek itinerary for today, it is your acclimatization day in which you are going to move around the area. Acclimatization is very important to settle down with the altitude to avoid any altitude illness.  Samdo is accessible by foot trail from Tibet and there is a large commercial fair held about one Kilometer farther along the track in summer; many Tibetans are found here buying and selling goods. It might be for the same reason why most of the Tibetan refugees have relocated their deeds here. From Samdo, trekkers can view the Budhi Gandaki, huge mani cliffs, and soman glaciers as well.

Trekkers can make the most of this rest day by either visiting Pana Danda or the Lajyung Pass, which is the border to China. From Pana Danda, Tasa (5543m) and Chhaamjo (5382m) peaks are also visible.

Day15

The views of the Larkya Glacier and the great Manaslu Mountain today are wonderful to behold. Larkya La Phedi is where the trekkers rest and get ready for Larkya La Pass the next day. This persists across hills and over wooden bridges across the Budi Gandaki. After crossing two streams, the Larkya glacier will appear which is wildly astonishing. Then you cross the Salka Khola Valley, climb up and reach Dharmasala or as it is often called Larkya La Phedi – a stone Guest House which is not a lodge in the conventional sense but a kind of shelter. The hike is not very long, so you’ll have ample time to acclimatize to the heights.

Day16

To start the trek over the longest and most difficult part of the trek, one must depart Dramasala extremely early in the morning. Today's trek starts with a gradual steep rise through the moraine. It then gradually falls to the lake, then it becomes rugged and indefinite as it over steep grassy hills. When you get to the four frozen lakes, there will be the last tough stretch to the pass. The hills of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kanguru, Minjung, and Annapurna II which is one of the most giant peaks can be visualized from the pass.

From this point, the route turns west and stays along the top of the moraine passing through with steeper more rocky turns they cross the moraine descending southwest on loose gravel to reach another grassy moraine. From the stony part, the path becomes clearer and brings to a small meadow. Further on, as trails come down to a large meadow passing by an old mani and a small tea house, which indicates Bhimtang, the valley becomes vast.

Sangure Kharka meadow is just a 30-minute steep but tiresome walk through the forest below the pass. Next, you'll encounter a landslide area, followed by a challenging climb, where prayer flags signal the top of the ridge. The route that has been described at last reaches the river bank at Gho. After Dudh Khola, you will go to Tilije and Thonje which are great beautiful villages full of trees and lots of Nepal’s natural beauty. Then you will proceed to Dharapani for the overnight stay.

Starting point of the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek

As mentioned earlier, please arrive at least two days before your trek starts. Our team needs at least one day to obtain the special permit for the Manaslu trek and to process this permit, we need your original passport with a Nepal visa.

Your starting point is Soti Khola where we reach by local bus from Arughat or renting a private jeep at an extra cost.

Accommodation During The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek

Accommodation in Kathmandu is as per your choice and budget available as there is a wide range of hotels but in the mountains, it is quite different and difficult to some extent to find the desirable rooms.

The gorgeous Manaslu region has stunning geographical structures. The rugged mountains sometimes halt the development of this region but despite all hindrances, the local people have built tea houses, guest houses, or lodges with basic amenities available.

Wi-Fi and hot showers are mostly available in accommodations while in Kathmandu but it costs an extra fee in the mountains.

Meals on the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek

Your body requires a lot of energy while on trek as you will be walking daily for at least 6 to 7 hours. You will require protein, carbs, and other nutrients in a well-balanced amount. Although you may have few options while in the mountains, you will still be able to eat enough wholesome meals in the trek areas.

Throughout the trek, we serve 18 dinners, 19 lunches, and 19 breakfasts. Full-board meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner/main course) are served at the tea houses for which you must inform the tea house staff at least 1 hour ahead of your dinner time.

Tea houses provide fresh, hygienic, delicious, and nutritious meals throughout the trek. The menu includes a mix of traditional, Asian, and Western dishes, although it becomes more limited as we ascend. We highly recommend drinking fluids like green tea, lemon tea, hot lemon, ginger tea, and garlic soup (essential) at higher altitudes, alongside fresh vegetable options.

Note: While non-vegetarian food is available in the trek region, we suggest following a vegetarian diet. To avoid food-related issues or altitude sickness, we also advise refraining from dairy products, alcohol, and caffeinated beverages.

All personal expenses, excluding standard meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), are the guests' responsibility.

What is the luggage allowance for the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek?

The allowed luggage carried by one porter is maximum 24 kgs. One trekker is assigned to 2 trekkers. We advise you to bring the essential items to the trek. A small backpack with you to carry your valuables. If you are over your luggage, you can leave those at our office of Recreation Holidays for free until you return from the trek.

The entire trek is an exciting adventure offering you the ultimate experience in the exotic nature of Manaslu Tsum Valley. During the trekking period, you can enjoy the lifestyle of the local Sherpa/Gurung community.

The day starts with a delicious breakfast with a cup of hot tea or coffee. After breakfast, you will start walking depending upon the day of trekking and the destination and it starts usually around 7 am to 8 am. You will stop by for lunch after 3 to 4 hours of walking. After having lunch, you will rest for about 30 minutes and start walking till you reach your destination.

Once you arrive at the tea house, guest house, or lodge, you will be taken to your room for rest and freshen up. If you reach your destination before dark, you can roam around nearby places and explore. Dinner is usually served from 6 pm to 7 pm in the common dining hall. After having dinner, you can spend some time talking to fellow trekkers or discussing the next day's plan. But the guests prefer reading books or heading off early to bed for a relaxing, well-deserved sleep for the following day's adventure.
