Is the Hidden Lake Trek Challenging?

Due to some rugged valleys of the Annapurna region, it is recommended to take some physical training before heading to Hidden Lake. Day01

Your journey to Hidden Lake begins once you land in Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our representative of Recreation Holidays and then transferred to your designated hotel. Freshen up, relax, and then wander vibrant streets like Thamel. Prepare mentally, emotionally, and physically for the wonderful trek ahead.

Day02

Travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara is the best scenic drive, enjoying the eye soothing greeneries, juggling rivers, soaring mountains, beautiful snow-covered peaks, and terraced fields. Starting the drive early in the morning, you will reach Pokhara by evening. Pokhara is an exotic place, full of serene nature and enthralling adventurous activities. Check into the hotel upon arrival and rest for the day. An evening walk by the lakeside is peaceful and calming.

Day03

A short drive of approximately 2-3 hours in a jeep takes you to Ghandruk from Pokhara. Ghandruk is a traditional Gurung village settled in the lap of the Annapurna Himalayas, well known for its amazing mountain views and cultural richness. This village is the official starting point of the trek to Hidden Lake. Slowly ascending through thick rhododendron trees is the trekking route from Ghandruk to Tadapani. This is the first day of hiking towards the Hidden Lake. While walking, you take in the breathtaking views of the Annapurna Range. When you get to Tadapani, you unwind and rest for the night.

Day04

Walking from Tadapani to Dobato is peaceful and less crowded. You will pass through thick forests of rhododendrons on the way to Dobato, enjoying the beautiful surroundings. 
On the way, you will reach the Muldai viewpoint at an altitude of 10,991 feet. You will be admiring the pristine view of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan ranges. Walking for about 5 to 6 hours with sore muscles, you will reach Dobato.

Day05

When you start walking uphill towards Pode Kharka from Dobato, you can notice the drastic changes in the terrain that are remarkable. 
Rhododendron forests gradually change over into alpine landscapes, wide open ridgelines, and rugged rocky trails. Once you reach Pode Kharka, you will be stunned by the spectacular mountain views. Now, you should start maintaining a steady pace to avoid any kind of Altitude sickness. Acclimatization is essential when you start feeling the air is getting thinner.

Day06

Today is the day of success, as you are destined to reach the Hidden Lake. An early start towards the hidden glacial lake makes you fresh and maintains your pace at high altitude. The trail to the Hidden Lake is steeper and physically demanding as you have to walk through the rugged pathways, but the moment you reach it, you will be awed. The gorgeous lake surrounded by soaring snowy peaks is mind-blowing. The views will amaze you. 

After spending some unforgettable moments, you gradually walk down to Pode Kharka, and continue walking till Tiribung.

Tiribung to Jhinu Danda is about 7 to 8 hours walking distance. Descending slowly towards Jhinu Danda is tiring. Passing through forests, terraced farmlands, and crossing rivers will always inspire you to continue your walk despite exhaustion.  As you walk down towards a lower elevation, you feel refreshed and dip in the hot springs of Jhinu Danda, which is highly recommended for recovering from sore muscles. Yes, Jhinu Danda is popular for its natural hot springs, which will give you pure natural relaxation.

This day is a descent from Jhinu Danda that takes about 2 to 3 hours to reach Pokhara, passing through the dense forests. This is the time of celebration for the successful completion of your amazing Hidden Lake Trek. Upon arrival in Pokhara, head to your hotel to relax and rest.

Starting the trek

The Hidden Lake Trek starts with your arrival in Kathmandu. Our representative from Recreation Holidays will be waiting for you at the arrivals gate at Tribhuvan International Airport to welcome you and escort you to the designated hotel. It usually takes about 45-60 minutes to clear the immigration process and collect luggage. 

The hotel check-in process will be handled by the representative. Your passport might be required for identification. In case of early arrivals before the standard check-in time, there will not be any additional fees. After freshening up, you will be briefed about the trek by our representative. To ensure a smooth experience during the trek, we do a compulsory permit verification session, ideally after dinner at the hotel. 

Kathmandu is a beautiful city that can be comfortably explored by people of all ages, regardless of their health conditions. As you begin your trek to a higher elevation, it is always emphasized by your trekking guide about the importance of following acclimatization protocols to avoid any health hazards during the trek.

How to Reach the Hidden Lake?

If you have enough time, you can go to Pokhara from Kathmandu via road in a tourist coach, or if your budget allows, a flight is the fastest way to reach Pokhara, or private transport can be hired at extra cost for your comfort. From Pokhara, you will be taking a local jeep to Ghandruk, which is off-road. The only way to reach the unique Hidden Lake is by trekking. You walk daily for 5 to 7 hours, depending on the daily destination in the trek. A helicopter is usually used for emergency evacuation if any mishaps or health issues occur. 

Permits and Regulations

Hidden Lake Trek is an off-the-beaten trek that is less explored by trekkers. Not many trekkers visit this part of Nepal, where they are advised to expect a basic and authentic trekking experience, especially in remote areas. Accommodation is basic at tea houses or camping. Meals are traditional Nepalese meals, i.e., dal bhat (rice with lentil soup). Communication via the Internet is available at lower elevations but sometimes limited or unavailable at higher elevations. Accommodation on the Hidden Lake Trek is quite simple and basic compared to other trekking routes.
